My name is Jordan Grandy and I come from the city of Dayton, Ohio. I attended my undergrad at the University of Cincinnati where I got my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and International Affairs with a minor in Political Science. My concentrations are currently Development and Conflict Resolution. I am a firm believer in diversity and inclusion, and I have always been an advocate for seeing the world through different lenses and perspectives in order to get a more complete picture of the world. This has been my motivation to study international affairs and I aim to carry and spread this attitude of inclusion wherever I go. I have volunteered and worked in political campaigns and offices from the local to the federal level and at each level I aimed to find out the concerns and advocate for the lesser heard voices. My favorite topics to talk about are music and culture. In my undergrad, some of my favorite experiences were co-hosting a radio show called “Sound in Color”, being part of an arts collaborative, and writing music and culture pieces for a magazine called “NOIR”.
I came to Penn State’s School of International Affairs because I appreciated the welcoming attitude that I received from the SIA community. On top of this, the SIA program is full of experienced and uniquely qualified faculty and staff that I am happy to have the opportunity to interact with on a daily basis. I believe the SIA program has and will give me not only the knowledge, but the applicable skills needed to succeed in the career field of international affairs. I hope to impress upon anyone interested in a career in international affairs the great opportunities and experience you will receive here at Penn State’s SIA program.
